Live edge sugar maple coffee table

The tree that gave us this tabletop came from a friend’s house in Owls Head, Maine.  The sugar maple was cut down in 1999 and 16 years later, 3 small slabs of this tree made their way to our workshop.

Leaving the natural cracks, wormholes, live edges and spalting allows the wood to tell its story.

The hard maple base, constructed with through-wedged tenons and corner bridle joints, creates a grounded, geometric counterpoint to the free-spirited top.

Treated with lye and soap, the table has a weathered look and tactile quality.
