Fish Print bench
This bench is the result of collaboration between Studio89 and Trosko Design, a studio in Yarmouth, Maine creating contemporary, colorful surface designs. The fabric was hand-stamped after the fish pattern was hand-carved onto a block, resulting in a geometric pattern. The hand of the maker is evident, adding interest to the piece.
The bench was designed so as not to compete with the fabric.
White ash was chosen to keep the bench light in feeling. The use of rift-sawn lumber allows for parallel wood grain for all components, keeping the lines geometric and simple. Traditional mortise and tenon joinery connects the legs to the aprons and stretchers.
Through-tenons, wedged with walnut, connect the legs to the armrests, creating a visual and tactile detail.
Hand-rubbed soap finish. Woven cotton upholstery fabric.
